Exploiting Tragedy to Promote War, Hegseth Falsely Claims That Iran 'Cheered on 9/11' | Common Dreams

On September 19, 2001, The Washington Post reported that:

Despite two decades of official hostility, the people and government of Iran have offered vivid messages of sympathy and condemnations of terrorism in the aftermath of last week’s attacks on New York and Washington...

Hard-line conservative Iranians and moderate reformers, top government and religious officials, Friday prayer leaders, and citizens on the street have uniformly denounced the plane hijackings and suicide crashes of September 11. Some, including President Mohammad Khatami, have offered to join an international campaign against terrorism under certain circumstances, including United Nations sponsorship.

If you look for radicalism in a culture, especially one that has had its history chaotically thrown asunder by imperial powers like the US, of course you can find radicalized people... but it is a crime on a global scale to portray the Iran that agreed to Obama's nuclear accords as an Iran that would have meaningfully celebrated 9/11.

Maybe the Iran now would, or at least the leadership might, but then again that was the point of all of this right?

To attack Iran and assassainate leaders until the only leaders that have credibility domestically are the ones that play into the idealized stereotype of extremist radical leaders that the US/Trump/Republicans/Conservatives/Democrat Establishment wanted to justify their grand narratives of Defense, Security and Democracy.

Pete Hegseth is a disgusting human.

Of particular note, Pete Hegseth and his boss Trump would absolutely celebrate a random unrelated party interdicting into the current Iran War and blowing up a large civilian structure in an act of terror. They would absolutely celebrate it, publically, with AI videos about it. It wouldn't matter why it happened, or to what aim it was done, or how many civilians were needlessly killed in the process, the center and rightwing establishment of the US would with suppress a giggle and then say "well they had it coming for them didn't they!"

None of this is a defense of the Iranian government, that isn't the point, the point is these narratives are pushed to create disinformation at a level you can barely even perceive because the disinformation is the landscape itself.
