60 years of Star Trek uniforms: Looking back at the everchanging wardrobe of Starfleet

Sensible people: Those red uniforms are militaristic but still classy and timeless.

I do like the TOS uniforms. Seems like they'd be the most comfortable and easiest to get on and off.

The production had intended to dress the crew in new-look uniforms, but when they didn't work out, they instead turned out in a selection of "TNG" and "DS9" outfits.

Unfortunately, they didn't have time to tailor outfits for everyone, meaning that Jonathan Frakes (Riker) and LeVar Burton (LaForge) had to borrow suits previously worn by Avery Brooks (Sisko) and Colm Meaney (O'Brien) in "DS9" — rewatch the film, and it's clear they don't fit the actors properly.

An old running theory as to the constant change in uniforms is so if a Starfleet officer get time displaced they will know the general era they are in (past) or that they are in fact in the future
