The pervasive conviction seems to be that the economic upsides of renewable energy aren’t real: 57% of all voters (and 78% of the subset of climate change skeptics) said clean energy advocates exaggerate how cheap wind and solar have become.
Sorry about a hard paywall here, but the basic problem is clear: people don't actually believe price claims about wind and solar and storage. In part because monopoly utilities take the lower costs and don't lower consumer prices

It also ties into the larger income inequality problem. My credit is shit, so I can't take out a loan I can't pay off in a few years or interest rates murder me. I'm lucky enough that the property owner would let me do it, but solar installs are still more expensive than a used car, so I can't afford the loan.
It's just another instance where being poor is expensive, and having more money would save me money.

Solar installers can be suuuper predatory too. And the solar financing industry is horrible. Essentially all of the savings from the federal incentives were routinely soaked up just by those two alone on any given residential PV installation
