Just so's you know, that is quite a rural part of Ontario. You would be a stone's throw from Point Pelee, which is well worth a visit.
If you were flying Internationally, you'd likely be flying to Toronto Pearson, and it's a 300 km / three hour drive to Wheatley.
Also fair warning that it's not cold year round. Summers here along the Great Lakes are hot and humid.

There's also Pelee Island, which is a quick ferry trip from Kingsville or Leamington but most things on the island are only open during peak tourist season in the Summer.

Mostly hiking and outdoors kind of stuff. There's a bike trail and you can rent bikes. My parents like the Wandering Dog Inn.
Middle Island isn't readily accessible. If you're comfortable navigating a boat and the weather is good, you could make your way there but there's not really a lot to see other than cormorants and cormorant poop.
Edit: You do need to have a boating license to operate a motorized watercraft but you could paddle over there in a canoe if you were well prepared.

If you're into history, Fort Malden in Amherstburg has some 19th century programs. But again, you'll have a better experience during the Summer tourist season.

It's a historical fort. They hire Summer students to staff the buildings and do musket demonstrations. They have daily tours in May and June.

So no zipper? Big freeway overpasses (bridges, but concrete ones, not underwear) do have one roof and two walls. The cars are a small price to pay. And sometimes they can get to you quite literally. But no bears! That's important normally. Some bridges don't even have rocky or artificially pointy floors floors. I don't understand how rocky flooring helps us but it encourages us to find places with full wall coverage, that's for sure.
