does anyone have a link to a reasonably reputable site that can give an indication on the effects of this for different countries/regions?
i know that it cannot be accurate but there must be something that gives a regional outlook and or even an idea of what happened in the last el nino.

NOAA remains the best source still, https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/MJO/enso.shtml . They have a good page there with information more accurate than commercial news.
