Aki Basho 2026 - Day 3

There needs to be a name for that move Ura does, where he dives in low and gives a two handed shove, backwards and upwards, to the opponents chest, then quickly disengages if he doesn't get a favourable belt position out of it.

Asasuiryu looking strong and trying to work the left inside, even desperately hanging on at the bales, but Toshinofuji has the position for the overarm throw win.

Chiyoshoma's henka isn't successful off the lines but puts Shonannoumi in an awkward position for the eventual uwatedashinage.

Abi shuts down Tobizaru's low tachiai and brings him to the straw where the Monkey dances longer and further than most could but has to step out.

Asakoryu comes in with a big nodowa that Shodai slaps away and takes Asa to the edge, but Asa circles to get the bigger man in danger and shoves him out.

Kinbozan hefts Shishi around 180 during his drive to put him on the tawara but Shishi saves himself with a heel hanging just over the sand and drives back to the center. Despite some further throw attempts Shishi keeps his position and gets his yorikiri.

Ura and Oho have some back and forth and end up in a stalemate that Ura breaks pulling Oho to the dirt with a two-on-one arm bar tottari throw.

Takerufuji tries a pull down after the tachiai and ends up disengaged with Fujiseiun, who tries an underhook throw when they meet again but Take tries a counter with an inside leg trip. Neither succeeds but Take ends up with his leg in awkward position in between Fuji's legs who uses his deep inside belt grip to throw Take down hard on his hip and side with kirikaeshi back knee trip.

Gonoyama has a good drive off the tachiai against Fujinokawa but he parries an arm by to put the bigger man out of position and comes back in with a nodowa and then keeps the pressure on to drive Gono across the ring and off the edge into the second row.

Atamifuji works Takanosho to the bales and holds his position in a thrusting fight until Taka parries and Atami goes stumbling off the ring into one of the side shinpan judges.

Daieisho makes a good showing with some thrusts against Kotozakura but the ozeki lines up a slap down while pivoting away on one foot.

Takayasu comes in hard off the line and stands Kirishima up with a forearm but Kiri parries a thrust and when he comes in to engage Papa slaps his arms down and Kiri ends up touching clay with both hands.

Kotoshoho meets Aonishiki's tachiai with hands on his shoulders and goes for a slap down that puts Aoni facing away. He spins back and looks for an outside left trip that Koto tries to turn into another slap down but runs out of ring and looks for an overhook throw but ends up falling out but Aoni uses his right hand to grab the back of Koto's thigh for a watashikomi force out before he crashes out as well.

And to finish Onosato thrusts out Kotoeiho without any problems.

I dont understand what Aonishiki did over on the right hand side. Kotoshoho had him up against the tawara, Ao does something with his right leg, but doesn't step where his leg went, then is able to step with his left despite what looked like a lot of pressure from Koto, and then they're back in the middle. Was the leg move more about balance than position? Maybe it was to make the opponent just as confused as me?
