If my friend told me to give $20 to someone holding them at knife-point, threatening to kill my friend if they're not paid $20, and I say, "I don't condone violence, but it's not my place to get involved," then I've 100% taken the side of the Please Stab My Friend Party. If I say, "I'll do whatever it takes," give the person $20, and they still stab my friend, then I still sided with the My Friends Shouldn't Get Stabbed Party and can sleep a tiny bit better at night knowing that I tried my best.
