Tobizaru does a bit of a fake out stutter step tachiai against Shonannoumi but he's not fooled and goes for a slap down before getting a left underhook to prevent the Monkey's belt grip. After a weak throw attempt Tobi finds the right overhand belt and works circles until Shonan stumbles and collapses.
Good back and forth with Asakoryu and Toshinofuji until the latter uses an overhand right to drag Asa back and off his feet to the ground. Monoii called to check Toshi's foot positioning during the throw (I think) but the decision stands for him.
After Tokihayate's false start Abi comes out with a nodowa but gets parried to the bales where he unleashes a barrage of face and throat tsuppari and takes Toki across the ring and out.
Chiyoshoma debuts the first of the day's henka against Asahakuryu.
Shishi and Wakamotoharu have a bit of a slow tachiai that turns into a tsuppari thrusting battle before WMH locks up over unders with an underhand left. Shishi can only get one hand on and WMH takes him to the straw and falling backwards off the ring.
Head to head smashing tachiai between Oho and Takerufuji who ends up circled to the bales first but comes back with a beltless drive across the ring where Oho tries a final underhook throw and hangs on for a moment before Take shoves him out.
Good initial impact and tsuppari between Fujiseiun and Hiradoumi until Hira quickly recognizes an opportunity for a tsukiotoshi slap down.
Ura goes for his low tachiai against Nishikifuji who meets the charge and keeps up the tsuppari pressure until Ura creates a bit of space with a parry and charges forward to get his thrust out.
Ichiyamamoto has good thrust game off the lines but Roga finds a right underhook throw against the tawara that slips Ichi past and Roga finishes with a yorikiri.
Oshoma hangs on well with his feet on the straw so Asanoyama eventually gives up shoving and pivots to win with an overarm throw.
Takanosho keeps up some good tsuppari but Churanoumi bears the brunt and continues circling until he slips inside for an underarm left grip and drives Taka out.
Daieisho comes out with nodowa but is unable to move Yoshinofuji from the center and they have a tsuppari fight until Daiei's parry sends Yoshi stumbling and he's finished off with a shove and sent flying off the dohyo.
Atamifuji and Fujiryoga grunt and beltlessly lean against each other for awhile until Atami's right underhook throw shifts Fuji's weight enough to start a drive that takes him out.
Kotoshoho denies Fujinokawa's tachiai and blocks his arms long enough to drive him off the ring as he himself falls to the dirt.
Hakunofuji's tachiai blasts through Aonishiki who gets driven to the straw but his right underarm is enough to shift Hakuno enough to circle back inside. They go chest to chest and Aoni finds a weak underhand left grip that he tries to throw with but Hakuno drives him back and Aoni leaps off the dohyo as Hakuno hits the clay. Gyoji hesitates and points the fan to Hakuno, giving Aoni his first loss.
Gonoyama manages to move Kotozakura back off the lines but the ozeki circles and slaps Gono down.
Kirishima decides an inside left isn't enough and digs his right inside as Kotoeiho charges, halted by Kiri's right underhook throw. He circles back to the center and drives Koto out.
Massive tachiai impact sound echoes as Takayasu and Onosato slam chest to chest. Taka follows up with tsuppari and the yokozuna retreats circling and parries as he comes to the tawara but Papa recovers staggering just before stepping out while Ono goes reeling to collapse off the ring and Takayasu picks up a kinboshi.
