This happened in my senior year of high school when I was in Texas. The robotics team I was apart of at the time was traveling for FIRST robotics worlds. We didn’t qualify but we had to set up travel plans and who was going if did qualify, and were going to go either way.
Anyways when the time came for worlds we ended up doing some volunteer work and help the event run smoothly for the people who did qualify. So some of my friends and I were in the volunteer area having some breakfast they were giving us as thanks for helping. When the co-founder of FIRST comes up to us and starts up a conversation.
Now I don’t remember much of the conversation, as it wasn’t all that interesting just kinda mundane stuff. Just stuff about our robot from that year, what team we were a part of, stuff like that. But it was still shocking to me out of all the ~200 people in that room he talked to us specifically. At the time I thought it was just good luck to have a small chat with him.
A little later in the day I ran into him again, when I was grabbing some of the pins they had set aside for volunteers. Another small conversation with him, again nothing too notable about it. But now looking back l feel weird about what happened. At the time I thought nothing of it, now after him having been revealed to be at the island. It just makes me feel so uncomfortable.
In December of last year when one of the Epstein files releases happened. Some of his ties to the pedophile ring became to come out. Then in January of this year even more files with him in it were released.
To think I could have been another victim scares me. It’s been in the back of my mind the last few months, scares me how close I was physically to someone who had ties to Jeffery Epstein. I’m thankful nothing more happened, but still scares me a lot. I could have been another victim, my friends could have been victims.

Sorry you have that in your past. Do you think it affects the way you trust people going forward?

I feel like it already has affected the way I trust people, especially authority figures. It’s harder to trust that they really have my best interests at heart when some of them turn out to be monsters like him.

It's scary how we never know how creepy and terrifying some people really are.
