I think the main issues people have with spiders is that they can't "read" them easily. (At least for me it is.)

It's easy to tell how a dog or cat is generally feeling, or if that bear really wants your picnic basket. But spiders... I see one and it's impossible to tell if I'm looking at a happy little guy or the equivalent of a tiny 8 legged rabid chihuahua.

More importantly they don’t really have the capacity to feel anything about you at all. No such thing as a sentimental arachnid or insect. They’ll kill and eat their own partner. But for some reason people will look at an ambivalent expressionless thing and think it’s showing love and wants affection or something.
