1960 lost personnel for the Russians in 1 day!
AFAIK that's the highest for this war that Russia has lost. Why don't they just go home to their wives and families?
No - that's nowhere near the highest. I remember seeing numbers in the high 2,000s a couple of years ago. Still, it's one hell of a butcher's bill. Russia must be launching a new offensive.
I don't remember the name of it, but there was one fortress city right next to a slag dump that Ukraine had set up fortified defenses on top of. Russia bled a LOT trying to take that place. Those were some truly catastrophic daily casualties.
Edit: also, this was before drones became the #1 deciding factor of the battlefield.

Yes the Russians kept attacking, and if I remember correctly it took many moths for them to take it, and yes the casualties were heavy, but daily I don't think they were as many as we have been seeing for the past year. The total casualties taking Bakhmut is estimated at around 25k, and I think it took ½ a year. So per day on average it was less than 200.
And would possibly move the number up from an average of 700 to 900, and maybe occasionally above 1000?

This was back when Wagner group was still relevant, and it earned Prigosjin a lot of respect in Russia to take that city. But it also soured him on how Putin ran the war.
You know - my memory is pretty shit, in general, and I know that you've been running these stats for quite a while, so I'm willing to trust you on this. I tried looking around online for some service that provided data access to the numbers so I could sort casualties by day, but none existed. The closest I could find was https://russianwarship.rip/, but while they provide daily totals, they don't provide the ability to sort. Was thinking about whipping up a web scraper to pull the data into a mysql db so I could search on daily casualties, but that's way more effort than I want to put in at the moment. lol.

A couple of years ago the number were more around 500-800.
Edit:
Maybe the first year of the war, the numbers were pretty high in the beginning, where Russia just rushed in, expecting very little resistance.

You know - my memory is pretty shit, in general, and I know that you've been running these stats for quite a while, so I'm willing to trust you on this. I tried looking around online for some service that provided data access to the numbers so I could sort casualties by day, but none existed. Was thinking about whipping up a web scraper to pull the data into a mysql db so I could search on daily casualties, but that's way more effort than I want to put in at the moment. lol.
