Honestly, if the options are between A. whoever owns the New York time not getting paid and B. they get paid but it also creates an environment where the only companies able to afford the data for Sota models are Microsoft and Google, then I'll go with the former.
Seriously, Microsoft stands more to gain by losing. Do you guys really want a future where 3 companies own all AI solutions? Open source can't afford what every website is asking and we are only a few years from some real job displacements.
People like Sam Altman are trying to turn their products into a tax every company needs to pay to stay productive and that doesn't work if the companies can run their own solution. He is trying to choke out hardware supply while killing open source with legislation.
I get wanting to fight AI but this is fighting with them imo.
Sucks for the loss of revenue though but I think the whole ad and click based model kind of gross anyways tbh.
