Regarding the smell of books: Is a new book or an old book better?

Old depends on where it was stored. Some just reak of smoke, others have a nice vanilla tannin to them. New smells like factory, takes a while for the tannins to come out.

New-book smell can be more chemical.

Old-book smell can be concentrated nostalgia, or whatever carcinogens have been in its environment over the last thirty years

Can you use this form of divination to tell the future, or is it just for highlighting the mistakes of the past?
