Chiyoshoma comes chest to chest with Tobizaru and shoves him by the elbow, sending the Monkey to the bales. He recovers and charges Chiyo with some shallow underhooks as Chiyo circles and tries a slap down that goes nowhere. Tobi keeps the pressure up and Chiyo dances along the straw and then uses an overhook arm bar and leg to flip the Monkey as he falls himself.
Battle of the heavyweights as Kinbozan false starts against Abi. After a reset they paw awkwardly at each others' faces but Kinbo keeps up the thrusting and forces him out, even through a strong nodowa Abi goes for on the bales.
Shishi has a decent tachiai but Asahakuryu gets an inside left outside right and hefts the Ukranian mostly off his feet and across to the tawara. Shishi clings on with his tiptoes and looks like he might recover against the shorter wrestler but as he circles Asa follows up and gets the yorikiri. Shishi looks a lot more comfortable in the ring than he did last basho.
Ura comes out a bit low and Shodai meets the initial clash then shucks him by to send Ura staggering off the side of the dohyo.
Nishikifuji looks for a slap down but he can't pass Ichiyamamoto by, who drives the whole way until they both fall outside the straw.
Asanoyama wins the tachiai and takes Fujiseiun to the ropes where they lock up on one side with Asa getting the inside left. He can't finish and Fuji fights back to the center where he goes for an unsuccessful outside leg trip with his left and follows up by swimming an arm in to try to find a double belt grip. When Asa tries to reposition his arm Fuji takes advantage of the shifting weight and slaps Asa down with a katasukashi.
Hiradoumi comes out on top of a frantic tsuppari fight to get Oshoma on the bales and then gets an left inside and looks to drive, but Osho backs up and finds just enough space for a hard slap down that looks like it plants Hira almost head first into the dirt.
Takerufuji and Roga have a solid tachiai and Take goes for a pull down that Roga capitalizes on to shore up position and drive him out.
Bit of a slow, almost false start tachiai for Takayasu and Takanosho and they meet in the center. Takano gets an inside left grip and Papa can't find the same so decides to break the grip and as Takano looks for position again Papa slaps him past and completes the rear force out.
Lot of energy off the lines as Yoshinofuji finds an outside right against Kotoeiho he uses to drag him around 180 and get the yorikiri.
Hakunofuji and Kotoshoho get heavy thrusts and look for position and Koto manages to block both his arms and back Haku up. Eventually Koto uses an inside right to force Haku back who tries an underarm throw but gets crushed out with Koto landing on top as they fall off the ring.
Daieisho sends some hard slaps and nodowa and pulling at Fujinokawa who stays on his feet but can't take control until he lines up a good parry that gives him the space he needs to throw out thrusts of his own that drive Daiei out.
Aonishiki gets his inside left death grip against Atamifuji and keeps the clamp as he works the big man around the ring. He has to contend with Atami's weight the whole time and almost slips as he drags him backwards but finally grabs an underarm right and muscles him into position for the force out. Atami made him work for that win.
Kotozakura meets Fujiryoga's tachiai then sends him sprawling to the clay with a shoulder pull down.
Hard impact off the lines and Gonoyama has a decent slap down against Kirishima but he recovers and takes a two on one arm bar on Gono's right arm and drags him to the edge where he uses it to throw him down.
Onosato's tsuppari overwhelm Churanoumi who is forced back and out.
Shishi held on like 3 times on the edge. Unfortunately he spent most the match "on the edge".

I was a little worried that the late push by Fujinokawa was unsporting, but it looks like not a problem. Once again if we look at Fujinokawa's follow-through, and Daieisho's vertical posture, it seems clear that the last push was not that strong.

Onosato looking more like a yokozuna today.
Aonishiki Atamifuji was amazing. I didn't see any sign of Ao-kun protecting his injured ankles, he was just always in the right place.
Buzzsaw Fujinokawa amazing as always. Daiesho had a couple good moves but never looked like gaining control.

Aonishiki looked pretty tired after hefting all that weight around.
Daieisho I thought had the upper hand for the first few moves but Fujinokawa found one opening and went to town fast and hard like he always does.
