Mitakeumi up from juryo today. He and Toshinofuji have a grappling battle that ends with Mita hanging on the bales and finally going for an underarm throw where he gets crushed out before he can complete it.
Tobizaru and Tokihayate have some back and forth before the Monkey's failed slap down puts Toki deep inside and he chases Tobi across the ring for the yoritaoshi.
Chiyoshoma makes good use of his forearm in the throat to stand Asakoryu up but Asa comes in low and drives Chiyo out before his slap down.
Wakamotoharu waits for Abi's tachiai and takes some nodowa before some parries let him take Abi to the straw but Abi keeps up the slaps WMH finds himself up against the edge. Although he almost shucks Abi past the slap game is too strong and he's forced to step out.
Asanoyama and Shishi both lock up inside rights but Shishi can't recover against Asa's drive.
Ura and Ichiyamamoto lock up high and far on shoulders, keeping each other from belt control. They each try a slap down and find themselves in the same position until Ura initiates motion which Ichi capitalizes on to take him to the bales where Ura hangs on balancing on one foot and locks up Ichi's left arm to finish with a tottari arm bar throw.
Roga finds no answer to Hiradoumi's double unders off the lines and he's forced out.
Takerufuji easily defeats Oshoma's weak slap down attempt and switches from a chest shove to throat pressure to shove him down to the clay.
Kotoshoho and Yoshinofuji have a thrusting battle before they lock up and throw each other down at the edge. Close call but Yoshi takes it with an uwatenage.
Kotoeiho takes control and works hard to put Atamifuji on the edge but the big man pivots at the last moment and puts Koto on the dirt.
Takayasu and Fujinokawa use tsuppari until Fuji finds double unders and forces the veteran to step out before landing on the ground himself.
Churanoumi and Kirishima alternate between looking for hand position and thrusting until one of Kiri's slap down attempts misses and he stumbles backwards to fall on the clay.
Daieisho meets Aonishiki's tachiai with both forearms against his collarbones, preventing the initial left hand grip. After some thrusts Daiei looks for a failed slap down that lets Aoni get that under left hand and he immediately drives for the victory.
Hakonofuji wins the tachiai against Kotozakura and a poor slap down attempt can't stop the force out.
Good tachiai but Onosato puts Takanosho on the straw and though he hangs on for a bit the yokozuna won't be deterred.
You know how in fake martial arts they say something like: "when he punches you, just dodge under the punch, then spin, grab, move to the other side, and pull his arm forward" in such a way that no human being could realistically do it? Well Ura can actually do that kinda thing. Conclusion: Ura is a superhuman being.

Ura does the Ura, bending back into an impossible shape on the bales, shifting his weight to Ura's right, where Ichi isn't pushing, and sneaks his left arm across kinda like a makikae, so he can dive forward under Ichi's push. Grabs the arm, pulls and spins, and I just about fall off the couch.

It took me a while to figure out wtf happened here. I think Churanoumi's left hand (not visible from the angle I was looking at) grabbed Kirishima's arm during that slapdown and spun Kirishima out of position, making it possible to shove him out.
Good tachiai but Onosato puts Takanosho on the straw and though he hangs on for a bit the yokozuna won’t be deterred.
I'm glad Onosato's winning again. The grim benefit of his recent problems is that they showed how hard it is to make it look so easy.
Fujiyoga throwing Gonoyama on spectators with that angry grimace afterwards was annoying. I get it, sometimes they want to be sure, but he seemed to just not care.
Tough call. Gonoyama was there because he had lost his balance, and Fujiryoga needed to get Gonoyama out before he spun around. Gonoyama's feet were already planted and ready to push back. I think the sumo association gives reprimands if they determine a late push was uncalled for, but idk if Fujiryoga got a reprimand. fwiw he always looks like he has an angry grimace, lel.
It looked to me like Kirishima made a mistake in going for that hatakikomi without having his feet in the right place for it. If he was half a step to his left before starting that he wouldn't have lost his balance and could have won from there.
if you forward to 21:02, you can see Churanoumi's left hand was a large part of making Kirishima lose his balance (this is hard to see in other videos.)
