Why roff? Why not LaTeX or typst?
No reason, I just wanted to flex. Also, I believe roff still in 2026 generates PDFs faster than any other markup system by a couple of milliseconds. So one must respect the early UNIX gurus.
I would also point out that users of roffume can consider roff an "implementation detail" and ignore it entirely. The main benefit of roffume is the creation of "per-application, self-contained folders" containing all inputs (markdown), outputs (PDFs), and commands.
cool, I didn't know roff. Ended up building my own typst setup, which is readable enough to not need a md as source IMO, but it's fast af and better to work with than LaTeX.

Typst is cool. I probably would have used it myself if it were mature enough by the time I started with this project.
