You basically have two options when you starts pushing carts or working in the food court. If you start in the food court you will never get out of the food court, ever. If you push carts you could be in a register or stocking in a few months. I worked the food court for 3 years and its close to second class. I mean its a really good place to work and the people are generally nice but I knew a guy that had been there for 10 years have to threaten quiting to get out of the food court and they still would call him back in whenever things got crazy.
When you're hired they ask if you want to push carts or work the foodcourt. Fuck me for it being the summer and 100 degrees thinking it would be better to be in the AC. Avoid the foodcourt. If you push carts and have a degree you can start applying for corporate rolls in 6-12 month. Costco historically never hires externally unless its a highly skilled position.
The only people I know that have stayed at a job, like a career some over 20 years now, are those that work at Costco. Excellent benefits, near Union, good pay, good hours, all their coworkers seem like decent community. I have nothing negative to say about Costco.
