The biggest AI threat isn’t artificial superintelligence wiping out humanity in a fit of mechanical vengeance like some digital Old Testament God, it’s the same oligarchs and empire managers as usual inflicting the same evils and abuses as usual upon their fellow man.
We’re already presently watching the empire building AI into its killing machines and causing all kinds of horrifying problems while these technologies become more and more complex and unpredictable.

And the added problematic part besides them being evil, warmongering people is how the main villain is part of some doomsday cult. He thinks he's the manifestation of the Antichrist. Or at least has to aid the Antichrist in achieving doomsday, preferably some time soon.

Peter Thiel, co-founder of Palantir. He's kind of his own doomsday cult and giving lectures. But it's an entire network. I once listened to a 2h podcast about him and his allies. They're in cahoots with the MAGA people who want to set America (and half the world) on fire, to then be able to re-build it as a fascist dictatorship, some Israelis who want to manifest Skynet from Terminator... But he's the main one with an obsession towards the biblical Antichrist.

Imo this is the immediate threat and the ai overlord or apocalypse (hyperbole, but not by much), is the slightly further out threat.
For all its faults, I cant help but worry Westworld got it right with the impenetrable bus sized ai brain running a flashy but fascist society from behind the scenes.
Id say maybe the ai wont actually be that capable, but evil people + slightly less capable ai could still achieve the same thing.
