Found a cool one the other day *Lactarius contraversus*

The gills color here really threw me for a loop, I didn't do a cross-section in the field so I didn't even consider the white-spored Lactarius until I got home and broke the cap. I did a nibble and spit test to confirm and the flavor wasn't so much "spicy" as it was like the sensation of licking a battery.

They were a bit hard to spot, barely peeking out from the sandy mud near a stream.
