Sadly, there are a lot of people who do the exact same thing today

Yeah apparently it helps relieve pain caused by arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Not sure I'd try it, but that's what they say...

The whole alternative medicine market is creepy, but things like this that are actively and obviously harmful just blow my mind

Yeah no doubt. I follow a channel on youtube who analyses products like that then sends the info to the NRC and other regulating bodies to get the products banned. Pretty interesting to watch that process.
