Yep, heard the same argument were made by governments in the past, but people fought back against it (might be misremembering though so take this with a grain of salt).

So many laws being violated by so many companies, even all the data protection agencies combined won't be able to keep up for the next 20 years or so.

And that's already way too generous, seeing how long each and every single case is being dragged out.
