yeah the "twitter" style of social media never appealed to me like the forum style did, mastodon is still better than twitter because no algorithm but following individuals instead of ideas or hobbies just seems weird

It's so much easier to get started on a service like this vs Mastodon, where you kind of have to figure out what you want to look at completely on your own. I ended up only following my bros on Mastodon, which makes it a pretty useless service, since I talk to them regularly.

I couldn't agree more. I follow a decent amount of people on mastodon, none of which I really know, I just like their posts. But lemmy is always on top imo
