pro tip, lemmy doesn't support selfhosted gifs at the moment. Your best bet is redgif for now

As far as I've seen this is the correct answer. Gifs need to be linked to an external host

Auto play may depend on your app/viewer and settings. I see lots of gifs hosted by redgifs that autoplay.

everything for me is blurred and nothing auto plays 😟

You have NSFW posts blurred and not autoplay until you click on them. You can change it though.

edit: are you using an app to view lemmy or web?
