Dear MIL,
I'm sorry it has taken so long to write back and acknowledge your email. We have been taking care of Bb and Cc off and on this week while Y was in having the baby. Like you, we are grateful that all went well with the delivery and the baby is healthy for the couple. We will be taking some meals over after Y returns home from the hospital. Makes me think of how often I have taken for granted the meals that have come to our home by way of the Relief Society through the years for various reasons of need. Makes me sad that Y will not have access to that blessing and out-pouring of love by good members of the Church, but we will do our best to help out.
I just re-read your email once again and I feel the love and a very strong spirit when I read it. D too. Thank you for including us in your family to call upon the powers of heaven to help bring their family back to the covenant path and to their Savior, Jesus Christ. We will share it with our children as well.
My heart-strings are being stretched knowing that in about a month, X and Y and the girls will be moving. That being said, both D and I feel strongly that this is exactly what needs to happen to bring them back. And for all the specific reasons that you asked your family to pray for: new friends for the girls, new co-workers for Y, new neighbors, etc. All whom will be good members of the Church and examples, be-friend them, love and invite them. We also feel that M* (my sister) and her family can be an influence for good. Another reason why we feel the move will be good is because it will humble them to start over, leave their friends behind, etc. And being humble always seems to be part of the equation needed to bring someone to their knees, to be more receptive, to make changes, etc. Both D and I can testify to that principle! I'm sure you and FIL can as well.
I wanted to share one sweet, tender mercy that we received back in April at a multi-state conference in Mesa that we attended for Service Mission Leaders, our current calling. It was a 2-day conference presided over by Elder Steven Shumway whom we had never met before, but were touched by the spirit and love he brought in the training he provided to us all. One evening as we finished going through the buffet dinner that was provided for all the attendees, he came up to us. He asked us our names and where we were serving from. Then, the very next question he asked us was, "And how are your children?" Of all the things he could of asked us, he asked us that. It is very uncharacteristic of me when family or friends ask how our children are doing to say anything about X and Y falling away from the church. I never do. But this time was different. I said, "Elder Shumway, you were inspired to ask that question of us and this is why. . ." I then proceeded to share about X and Y. He asked me their names and said, "I will pray for them." The next day at the conclusion of training, we were leaving the building. Elder Shumway was in the hall speaking to another brother. All of a sudden he came running after us and calling to us. He then asked again, "What are the names of your children? I just wanted to be sure I had them right." And MIL, I know he is praying for our children.
I know that when we are serving and doing the Lord's work for His children, that He will bless us with our own personal needs.
We love you! See you next month for their move. We'll all have our roller-skates on to go to work!
Love,
V and D
