FWIW I don't automatically think of crazy extremists when I see that flag just based on the design, but going around America with a 1% Muslim population is going to lead to misunderstandings.

The Taliban's flag is the tawheed flag (better known for its unmodified usage by ISIS), except with black lettering on a white background. That is the flag the demonstrators are walking under.

It's an Islamic flag but walking around with one now is probably like being a Hindu walking around with a swastika.

The usual Islamic flag/Jihadist flag is white-on-black.
The Taliban flag is black-on-white and I haven't seen any other group use the same black-on-white flag that the Taliban uses.
