I’ve never even thought about the English sounding equivalent until now.

And now I don’t think I’ll ever be able to NOT think about it. God damn it.

wholeofthemoon@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (6 replies)

Is it not more like Bon jaw?

MisterD@lemmy.ca · 18 pts · 2y (5 replies)

Bon jewr

nightdice@feddit.de · 6 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Depending on the accent, it may also be closer to bong jewr

tycho@lemmy.sdf.org · 2 pts · 2y (2 replies)

What? There is no hard g sound afaik.

shuzuko@midwest.social · 3 pts · 2y

It's more trying to indicate the tongue placement - an N sounds different depending on whether you place it at the front of the tongue or back of the tongue. Back of the tongue is much more nasal, which is frequently associated with French accents, and could sound almost like an "ng" sound to someone less familiar with nasal pronunciations.

Kecessa@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 2y

There isn't, but in some regions of France the accent makes it sound like it

I miss the "bone apple tea" subreddit. That and "boot too big" were constant sources of slightly stronger nostril exhalations.

gingernate@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

He boot too big for he god damn feet!

lugal@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

It's French for die langue
