And why is it samurai?

Calling it French Fries in the Belgium community is quite the risk you're taking.

And mayonaise of course. Nothing beats mayonaise.

antik@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y

I like living dangerously!

Mayonnaise, only with stoofvlees

ruud@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Mayo

antik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

You're Dutch. So follow-up question: Which one?

Zoete Hollandse bucht of Echte goeie Belgische met ei?

ruud@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Zoete Hollandse bucht!

Eleebid@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 3y (4 replies)

Samurai sauce

antik@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Friends for life

Edit: Pili-Pili is also acceptable

8BitFriendly@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

Haha, I don't think I've ever tried samurai. Maybe I should give it a try.

Maultasche@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I really hate how hard it is to get in Germany.

protput@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

If you pay for the product and shipping I'll send it. Don't think it is worth it though 😛 Does lemmy already have a snackexchange?

gingerwolfie@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Mayo

PrunesMakeYouPoop@kbin.social · 0 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Gross.

FranklinsBeard@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Maaaan, you can't say that to francophones. C'est sacrilège

zedutch@lemmie.be · 9 pts · 3y (3 replies)

Mayonnaise is the only acceptable answer. Everyone else is lying to themselves

SalsaBoy69@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

I concur

PrunesMakeYouPoop@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Yeah, but then you'd have to eat mayonnaise, which tastes like how I imagine goblin cum tastes.

antik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

I think there's a clear difference between Belgian mayo vs anywhere else in the world.

herrwoland@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

I tried tartar sauce last time and it's now my new favorite

KilroyIsHere@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 3y (1 reply)

The most spicy available, usually samourai but my local friture has a lovely special spicy american sauce

discodoubloon@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

I got introduced to that while I was over there and I love it. Samouraj sauce is the bomb.

R05@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y

Mayonaise, nothing else than home made mayonaise

korny@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y

The best sauce is no sauce, I eat them all natural

Honey Dijon

antik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

supermurs@kbin.social · 4 pts · 3y

Ketchup and mayo

winged_fluffy@kbin.social · 4 pts · 3y

Friet speciaal. Ketchup, mayo and raw diced onion.

antik@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Sorry to that one guy who posted about using some kind of vinegar on his fries but lemmy.world had to roll back and we lost 30 minutes of comments/posts.

Alenalda@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

This is the way

NextWave@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

TempleSquare@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Utah Fry Sauce

50% Ketchup

50% Mayo

. . . I'll show myself out...

Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 3y

I have to admit I really like joppie sauce when I'm going for fries, but I regularly switch it up depending on what I'm looking for, so regular ketchup, samurai or andalouse all get their share.

ThreeHalflings@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (4 replies)

What is a samurai sauce?

ThreeHalflings@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Is it what you get when you milk a samurai?

antik@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Don't tell him about mammoetsaus, people

antik@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

It's a spicy sauce. Mayonnaise-based but with chillies.

ThreeHalflings@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Interesting, thanks.

8BitFriendly@kbin.social · 3 pts · 3y

If I had to rank them:

  1. Mayonaise

  2. Tomato ketchup

  3. Béarnaise sauce

  4. Tartar sauce (which is actually based on mayonaise)

...

  1. Everything else
fievel@vlemmy.net · 3 pts · 3y

Andalouse of course

DrTeeth@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

The english way: Salt and vinegar.

spunky@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

HP Sauce <3

gigabyte@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

Mayo for life!

amelore@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

I switch it up, I like tartar, mayonnaise, samurai, pickles

antik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Seems like todays winner is Mayonnaise. That's like the color grey of Sauces but ok !belgium@lemmy.world, I still like you

NaturalEnganche@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I know this is for Belgians but Malt Vinegar simply cannot be beat

DV8@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

I mean, look into the insane amount of sauces available. Even if you say it can't be beat you could try them all and discover things you can add to what you already like. Most Belgians don't just stick to one sauce.

Dakracs@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Mayo, though I've dabbled in ketchup and curry ketchup as well, especially mixed with mayo.

Unless it's friet stoofvlees, the only acceptable answer is mayo.

PrunesMakeYouPoop@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Recently, I've discovered gravy and cheese curds, courtesy of our (USA) lovely northern neighbors. Seriously, poutine is fuckin' bangin'!

antik@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

That looks greasy as hell. I would try it! I heard of Poutine before but I thought it was a combination of a russian dictator and a french prostitute

KaJashey@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

"Hamburger sauce." Equal parts Mayo, ketchup, and mustard.

caos@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

😋 Mustard!! 💛 🍟 💛

antik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Now that we upgraded to Lemmy 0.18.1 here at Lemmy World allow me: 🤢

That's for bratwurst and hotdogs.

Stardust@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

I prefer ninjas and the blood of virgins to samurais.

SpunkyIceke42@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Special saus curry ketchup

Grishaix@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y (8 replies)

"Pommes Schranke", mayonnaise and ketchup.

8BitFriendly@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y (7 replies)

TIL :-)

Personally I would never mix sauces. IMO you have to make a choice ;-)

antik@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 3y (3 replies)

That's a sad amount of sauce. I can still see fries :D

But you haven't tried "frit special" yet - Mayo/Ketchup/Onion?

8BitFriendly@kbin.social · 2 pts · 3y

Nope, got some catching up to do apparently.

Grishaix@feddit.de · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

The Onions: roasted or fresh?

Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 3y

They should be fresh, although I've seen versions with roasted ones too.

troplin@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

I love it.

Interestingly it tastes much better like this than a Single premixed sauce made from mayo and ketchup.

Grishaix@feddit.de · 1 pts · 3y (1 reply)

It's called that because it looks vaguely like this.

8BitFriendly@kbin.social · 1 pts · 3y

Really? That's too funny :D
