How does one get a new community created/approved on lemmy.ml?

Sorry if this has been answered many times elsewhere (or is in a FAQ or guide somewhere)...I've searched but haven't had any luck finding it.

Is it possible for me to create a new community? Or do I need to request it from an admin or something?

According to this post:

New community creation disabled

There are already plenty of communities here. New communities can be created on other instances.

It's a setting where lemmy.ml has it disabled. You could ask the admin to create it for you or sign up on an instance that has user community creation enabled.
