Chinese Linux Distribution

This is a video talking about Deepin OS, a Chinese made Linux distro based on Debian. Plus it isn't full of cringe like videos about anything related to China tend to be.

Deepin is definitely aesthetically pleasing, although vanilla Debian is more my taste.

I heard Deepin is working on its own packaging system to use in place of .deb/rpm. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It's cool that DT doens't act like a total dick just because the distro is made in China. Anytime anything about deepin is posted on reddit the comments are a shitshow

I agree with you there, I simply thought it was neat. I forgot that they were working on their own package manager, I hope it goes well. Finally, the only reason I decided to show that video (other than the obvious Chinese Linux distro bit,) is that he wasn't being obnoxious regarding that detail.

I assumed someone like DT would be obnoxious about it being from china, but it's cool that he's not

It is cool he's not. It's good to get a review of the OS, rather than the politics. However, if I'm storing my data on a system from that country, I just can't ignore the facts. https://thediplomat.com/2022/07/strict-government-censorship-requirements-leave-chinese-tech-companies-struggling-overseas/ is a good example. I'd love to play with that OS, but it's not worth the risk to me.
