It costs basically nothing, there's a very good chance it flops, but we desperately need some gambles to pay off.
It's the kind of thing a good gm should be doing.

Eh, I get that it's a low risk high reward signing, but I never really cared much for Kane, and he played for the Blackhawks. I'm pretty torn on this one. Hopefully he elevates the play of everyone around him.
