At first I wasn't sure why you defined "epiphany" here, but then it made sense. You interpreted the question as "What is the word for this?" instead of as a discussion opener designed to elicit interesting examples.
When I started at a previous job, their file structure of some of their projects looked very unorganized so they allowed me to restructure it. As I got into more and more projects, I started to see that their original structure was more efficient than the way I thought it should be.
