Or didn't do the same thing a turn later when he carried too much speed and didn't appear to have control?

That is max’s standard passing move. Also know as the dive bomb.

He tried to push Checo into the pit wall 10 seconds before Checo returned the favor. So they are kind of even.

Not sure which race you’ve been watching, but it must be a different one. He left enough space, can’t say the same thing about Checo.
