I got laid off yesterday due to ‘economic issues’, and the juxtaposition of the stock market hitting a record high was not lost on me.

Edit to add: just got confirmation that one of my programs is bringing in 80k today. This is fuckin wild man.

That sucks, sorry buddy.

On the plus side unemployment is also hitting record lows so there should be something out there for you.

Yea I’m not too worried. I’m very hireable and will likely wind up getting a fat pay increase out of this. It’s just that I really loved that job and preferred to make less and stay.

wow such brains 😮 how many PhDs do you have bruh

I'm not here to read the article, just to point out that linking to paywalled articles isn't a good practice.

If you don't have the brains to understand that, that's your own problem.

Talk about a douchey response...

You can get through the NY Mag paywall by opening in a private tab.

Edit: I don't understand the downvotes - do other people not do this routinely? Was just using that same trick to read a bunch of paywalled articles on Vulture this afternoon. Can anyone who reads the above and disapproves enlighten me?

Wait this can't be happening! It is the end of the world there is no hope. All is doom and gloom.

How is Wall Street doing well impact me?

Nah. I only invest in the market a bit and it is all buy+hold index funds. Most of my investments are in real stuff. Like paying for my wife's uni degree, buying a rental property with my brother-in-law, getting a tutor for my kids in math. You will never be poor if everyone you is doing well. Besides I trust my family friends a lot more than I trust Goldman Sachs mortgage backed securities and Bear Stearns.
