How difficult was it to set up a rpi instance? I'm considering setting one up for myself and a few close friends to aid reducing the load on the big instances. Based on your experiences, how viable is that concept?

It was not difficult at all, but I don't think it is a viable solution for something except a tiny personal instance. You can try it out, though.
