Gnome has search providers and if you have Gnome Calculator installed searching any calculation will provide an answer next to gnome calculator in the result.

You can't do this on windows though, instead you send a bunch of data back and forth to Bing so they can monitor you and make sure you're being a good consumer when you ask what 5+6 is.
