I would like to stress the "well groomed" part. When your beard looks like unkempt pubes, it ain't a good look. But when taken care of, it really can do wonders.
Story of my life. With short hair, I think longer would look better. Once I grow it out a bit and it looks ugly again, I give up and have it cut. Only to immediately regret it. When will the cycle end‽
I made the mistake of using zac efron as a reference pic for a haircut once and the hairstylist said "you know you might not look exactly like that, right?" I knew what she meant but I also knew what she meant.

Try a little bit of eyeliner and lip color. Losing weight also brings out some definition.
