One disconnect here is some people just don't give a fuck about learning or improving in itself, only to achieve a goal. So like "I want to make XYZ" the outcome is what they value not the process of getting there. Now they've been handed a tool that can skip the learning part and go right to "produces something better than I can" which only works because the bar is so low when you are comparing it to completely unpracticed work
Flashpoint is amazing. I'm in game dev school and every time someone comments about missing old browser games I show it to them. Seen a couple people get excited to tears being able to play childhood games they thought were gone forever
I'm busy doing shit I don't wanna wait around for laundry. Plus I've only once had access to a laundry room I trusted to not have stuff stolen out of it; we specifically planned for it because it was three weeks and we needed somewhere to do laundry at the halfway mark
Well I'm a trans woman not a guy but right now my one room apartment I have a mattress, a small desk, two wooden chairs, a suit case I use as an end table, and a treasure chest. This pic is weirdly accurate to my living situation
That's a big part of what I'm up to at school right now. Building my network, getting my classmates to build theirs, we're only getting jobs if we know someone
I'm a game design student. One of my classmates is vibe coding literally everything. Entire monitor dedicated to just asking AI for stuff. Every day it is "I made this thing!" Followed by hours of them blindly fucking with it to try and get the AI to fix it. They're learning almost nothing but occasionally something cool looking pops out and they start bragging about it. They're going to be so fucked the moment anything is bigger than a single system misbehaving in a contained way they won't have even learned the words necessary to start researching the issue
In game dev I'm convinced every team needs a hype person. Doesn't matter if they suck at actual game dev but it's invaluable having a positive emotional influence on everyone
When I job hopped and went from $70k to $150k/yr I was really mad I was getting taxed so much because it meant the US government was using it to kill people (before that even I was making more like 20k most my life). I love taxes when they go to the right place, I want to be taxed: I voted in support of every increase in taxes that came across the ballot that was related to things that I felt would benefit the community. Suddenly I had the funds to do real help with mutual aid groups, pay for a friend's housing while they were struggling to afford college, we even bought a (admittedly cheap) car for someone who was going to lose their job because their old car broke
I don't think it is as simple as "once you earn money" or "once you get older". Like you're saying, poor people regardless of ideology often behave in a more leftist way out of necessity. They'll probably stay left or right leaning as they earn more but just have the funds to express it as they go, and when the necessity is gone for republicans they'll stop engaging in community benefit. And while this isn't universal and doesn't make or break someone's leftist status, I feel we're less likely to seek out the kinds of things that earn us high incomes because they're often ideologically unsavory. Then because of working class infighting amongst the left we're additionally less likely to admit to each other in person when we're making bank
Maybe I'm off base or a bit defensive due to my own experience, idk. I feel the others around me who "became republican" the writing was on the wall well before we got more money or older
Friend of mine went on vacation to Taiwan and Thailand for like three weeks and got dental done then. It was cheaper to be out of work and buy plane tickets and hotel stays than to have dental done in the US
They've already been mentioned, but this last April 30th I got access to a theater. Me and a group of friends watched Ministry if Ungentlemanly Warfare immediately followed by Sisu. Great way to spend a holiday. I'm not sure which I love most between the two they're very different and both are stellar
