Benchy was originally released in 2015, and had over 1/4 of a million downloads from Thingiverse in under 2 years. It was the number one model on Thingiverse, and still is the most popular of all time (this vase isn't in the first 10 pages). They have unfortunately reset their statistics since then so there is no way to know how many downloads it has had total.
I am most definitely not on the same team as people that use chatbots so often they start to mimic their slop-style writing techniques. Worry about yourself, you don't get to decide what team I am on, tyvm.

This has always been a thought in the back of my head regarding GrapheneOS and why I never bought into the fan hype around it. Google has always been 100% in control of the door letting these AOSP projects function and they have been slowly closing the door for ages now. It will be fully closed at some point.

I've been in the 3d printing hobby for about 5 years and I couldn't pick that model out of a line-up of other similar models; it does not stand out at all, let alone in the same league as 3d Benchy. Also, archeologists can probably understand why vases exist and won't have to debate it. Finally, that model has under 10k downloads, Benchy has over half a million downloads (Also on printables, no way to track both models across everywhere they've ever been hosted).
I don't disagree with anything else you are saying or the sentiment, but with the rise of "AI Agents" it is becoming more common that the AI actually does something. It seems like there is a new story every few days about an agent deleting an entire database or buying plane tickets or sending an e-mail to the FBI. Unfortunately, we have people giving it more and more permissions and ability to "just act" and it is only getting worse.
In the end the developer (or AI wielding human) is responsible for the code quality and its license which is what matters.
They literally may not have any control over the license, that is one of the many big problems people have. Please read the article linked by OP about the copyrightabilty of LLM generated code - https://fsfe.org/news/2026/news-20260825-01.html. It depends heavily on how they used the LLM, so if there is zero disclosure required the entire project could get into licensing hell down the road.
The problem there is that the adult made the account and started the transactions and (presumably) completed all verifications required. This looks an awful lot like the parent is primarily at fault, doing just a little bit of sparkling embezzlement for his kid's youtube career.
Now, the shoe on the other foot, I don't think 9 year-olds should be allowed to be "content creators". The whole thing just feels like child labor modernized. Which ends up in a strange place when I think about child actors, because it also feels like forced child labor but everyone seems to be OK with that apparently...
I was thinking the same thing... At my job if you have a company card, you have to explain ever cent spent on it every month at a minimum. How did he not have a difficult conversation with someone when he bought fucking Robux on the company card??
