It's not a distraction though.

The vast majority of attempted suicide survivors regret ever trying. They get help and live better lives.

When someone is in a bad state of mind or having a depressed episode that is the time when they are most vulnerable.

Having easy access to an immediate life ending device with the squeeze of a trigger is a major problem.

This is the reason jump nets and barriers work on bridges. Making it slightly harder or more inconvenient to kill themselves saves lives.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here. I was replying to your assertion that all citizens of America are responsible for the actions of their government. I was trying to say that individual action of an individual (such as enforcing hateful rules or engaging in violence) is a personal action committed by a person. That person is responsible for their actions directly.

A person choosing to hurt, punish, rape, and murder another over a piece of clothing is a personal choice.

Me sitting at home disagreeing with how my government is run and writing to my representatives to tell them that is a personal choice.

Do you see how these choices are not the same?
