I swear they marketed it in a way where previous technologies before LLMS get lumped in with everything else, just so they can say "well what about this life saving technology that runs at 7 watts on a raspberry pi" as if its the same thing. That and all the easy accessable local LLM's/ai diffusions are pretty much just heavily distilled/quantized versions of the main model, or just porn that still chug power. I have struggled with a way to address this issue and the easiest way is to broadly just say fuck all ai and not make the distinction. The people who do use local models are maybe less than a single percentage of people who use ai. I don't think its nessisary to address it, and I think for most people everything you just typed is going to go in one ear and out the other. Even if you explain it to a random person on the street, I'm likely to believe they will still walk away thinking chatgpt is the just the natural evolution of the apple kicking camera, or algorithms that self tune a guitar.
Ubuntu touch has a widr selection of devices that are 90% completed and at the bareminimum do what you want.
You don't even need a shitty slow phone. Some of the oneplus phones work and they run on a snapdragon 845-865 which are the golden standard when it comes to emulation and other harder processes. I think the 845's source code got leaked too so often projects will only work for that chip.
I keep hoping if I say it enough I can will it into existence but I really think that thr steam frame is going to usher in a community made phone/tablet that runs on arch and uses fex just like the steam frame does.
So many community projects poped up on github when the steam deck was released, and people been using proton in third party apps. Hell other distros have their own "steam deck" mode that just boots into big picture mode. I truely think that fex, and the work valve is putting into(or funding) arm64, is going to be more valuable than the steam frame itself. Gamehub app is already using the work valve put in with fex, and arm translation layers you can play red dead on a modern mid range pocco phone at 720p fps. And that's the exe PC version not the Netflix apk.
So I tried sailfish os on a volla s23 or 22 I don't remember the name. and I was kind of underwhelmed by it. I didn't spend much time there, the community port didn't support the proprietary software I would of had to use waydroid which I felt like defeated the point. So I am not sure I gave it enough time or a proper chance.
To me sailfish os felt much more like a solid phone experience, but with Ubuntu touch felt much more framiliar, and felt more versatile because of that. Though the experience with Ubuntu touch felt much more like a computer with a horrible gnome interface that is not intuitive, and you never get used to it.

I can't even access reddit anymore without providing a ID, and 90% of my google/duck searches are sourced from reddit. All these websites now restrict api access and block scrapers like crazy now that they already stole all the data on the internet. Essentially the internet is getting locked down for these ai companies, who will do nothing but abuse this position to the point where you are paying 2 dollars for a google search.

If they do its going to be baked into windows as a monthly subscription to use the service, then you select from a drop down list of models to use for whatever task. They can bake a defussion model into Microsoft paint or whatever. You can do the same with krita/photoshop via plugins. So they will charge you a monthly fee to use your own hardware/compute.
The only reason they are pulling this now is because everytime they release some "big crazy disruptive" ai model the wind is taken out of their sails by the Chinese models. Sure you can argue no one has 15k for a PC with 128gigs ram/vram to run some of these models at their full capability, but you can quantize and retrain the models to work on less parameters. So you could work get a model to run on a 8gig GPU which is pretty common and if trained properly it can be decent at specific tasks.
They want to reposition themselves now that its obvious no one wants to generate slop with sora/chatgpt and it will never turn a profit. They are trying to reframe themselves as being nessisary for the greater good and some how if its a "open" model that its fine. But much like how googles android is "open" there are always ways to exert control with it to the point its locked down. For the model to truely be open, its even less profitable to these companies like openai. Nvidia can at least profit off people running local Ai models.
Also its in talks that we might nationalize Ai which is part of this reframing and their way to get more access to money, and power. We are already having a hard time not letting these Ai companies not absorb all of our goverment data, if we nationalize them they are just going to get all that data, and start removing welfare on a weaponized scale. We won't have to bail them out because it will just become this infinitly inflating budget worse than the mitary budget. And in the name of "socalisim, and effiecency" they'll just end up cutting all welfare programs including social security, food, healthcare for UBI. And UBI will be something like 600 dollars a month so you will be in a worse off position, and receive less benifits overall, but all that money the goverment saves will go straight into the Ai budget.
