I don't think replacing ad based funding models with subscriptions would totally fix the issue.
We have subscription based services with streaming, and look how that has evolved over the last decade.
Also, I think part of the benefit of ad-based funding is that in theory anyone in the world, regardless of income, can start using the Internet and communicating with other people around the world. Like, I'm not sure if the Arab Spring would have happened if web services were subscription based.
This all being said, I do think that ad based funding models do need to go, and I think it's good to have discussions about alternatives.

I agree that the linkedin culture is really bad, but the algorithm itself isn't too horrible compared to facebook/Instagram.
I've switched from microwave to stovetop and find that I enjoy the texture much more when prepared via stovetop.
