Finished! I liked it a lot, not for the story as I felt it really was targeted at the young adult male (which I no longer identify with in afraid), but for the ideas and some of the values. And the vision as well - of what will happen, and what might happen.
Good to hear about RSS, I’ve been using it since 2006 or thereabout as a landing page to put together my news sources and basic info I want every day (and also to follow my online comics). I was really annoyed when Netvibes closed recently, as contrary to what is there here I don’t find migrating from a reader to another trivial; finding one that is actually privacy oriented and not asking you to pay for basic functionalities is tricky, and then most of them don’t support migration so you have to rebuild your index.
And then I saw over the years a reduction of the proportion of websites that support RSS; now I feel that most don’t, at least the one I follow. And then there is the volume - as RSS push you all content from a publisher, anything that is a bit verbose (think hackernews or slashdot) will cause a deluge. Not mentioning republishing of articles which will cause one you’ve seen already being pushed again in your feed (usual with mainstream newspapers). All in all not an excellent solution I am afraid, but it’s better than the alternatives.
I’ll do another post tomorrow from my laptop with the workarounds I found to blunt the edges of some of these.

Just the fact of living in a “developed” country means that it’s citizens’ base footprint are impacted by the infrastructure available - and when it’s Switzerland or Japan it amounts to 4+TonsCO2 per annum, whether you’re above or below the poverty line…
Some argue that the current rise of fascism is a direct consequence of the rarefaction of cheap energy sources and of further virgin ecosystems to exploit. (I can provide some sources if anyone is interested).I think that it does make sense, but only time will tell.

Nah, it’s not crashing. The core business is still there and will be there in the future - it answers a need.
However it is a strong signal to the board of directors, which will translate if it continues to having to kick him out of any influence on the company. Basically he’s becoming a liability. Which is great. Carry on.

Dismissing someone this way really goes against the values here. Not everyone had the chance to take higher education courses. And not having that chance does not invalidate immediately their views.
Personally I have nothing against the mission of Tesla itself. If the nazi moron leaves the helm and sells his shares then I still think there is something to be done there. But people are trying to vote him out however they can.
Please, no. We don’t need electric tanks, that’s not a solution but a recipe for more of the same problems. We need smaller, lighter and slower to replace the petrol stock.
I did have a similar reading of it, though mine tends towards justifying the security robot as justified as very clearly the survival of the settlement is immediately at stake there - in other words my reading is that humans have not been able to survive in this world outside of self-contained pockets and are very afraid of going out of them for fear of messing up with something that will terminate them. Techno-fragile might be the right word.

The average person in the developed world is an active part of the problem - not much out fault to be honest, we are (all here I assume) part of a social system and it’s very hard to live within limits when the whole country is functioning much beyond. Just by BEING in the UK your carbon footprint goes +1.5TonsCO2/year from public service and infrastructure emissions… (if you’re in Switzerland it’s 4+Tons)
They’ve definitiy gained points from me here. I’m no fan of Rachel Reaves and the policies they implemented so far looked like a crossover between Lib-Dem and Torries.

Joke aside, this might be cultural. I’ve not seen these behaviours being so widespread in other countries I lived in (the UK, Finland, Germany, Japan). Maybe thinking about putting some sort of collective monitoring in place to limit the impact of these?
