I was about to say, oc didn't sound like any holy text of mine. Lotr is a much better answer.

Microsoft really kicked the bees nest with all of this. So many groups and people are trying to pry it all away from Microsoft because they are making it clear they can do better.

My biggest fear is that so many of these companies and IPs will go the way of shadow of mordor/war and just be used as a corporate write off, legally tying concepts like the nemesis system up for the rest of time as a complete loss for some small subsidy/tax exempt expenditure

This feels... Wrong somehow but I'm struggling to articulate what problems could arise from it. I think it's something to do with it being a personal license from a distributor instead of a physical collection of the actual game data to be manipulated at the users leisure.

I confess, I have a large library and if I had a kid or relative I'd absolutely like to see that collection put to use, but part of me feels like I knew what I was signing up for when I purchased games online.

I'd like to see people's opinions on this. Maybe I'm framing it all wrong.

Edit:

I concede, thank you for everyone's arguments. I'll be happy to be proven it's a good thing with time.

Stating the obvious but need to shout into the Internet:

It's incentive, turning desperate people into expendable weapons. War is good money for powerful interests with no qualms about human lives.
