I'm no Mr beast fan, but the dystopia you feel isn't his fault. It's the fault of our society. It's the fact that some people have to rely on a clickbait youtubers generosity to have vision surgery, instead of it being freely available.
It's the fact that inequality is so rampant and ever growing due to our infinite capacity for greed.
I mean you nailed it. It's entertainment - validation for people who want to buy the shiny new Apple thing. "Look how cool it looks in these artsy shots", forgetting it's a carbon copy of last year's model.

I understand that's the reason why they're doing it - but what excuse can they give? I guess I shouldn't be too surprised at the things consumers will endure - just look at literally everything apple does.
Interesting point about tourniquets is that improper use can be worse than just not using one. If it's tied too loose you compress the superficial veins but not the deeper arteries, increasing blood loss.
Sadly I don't think boycotting clickbait channels is a solution at this point. First, because almost every Youtuber does it. Second, even if you boycott it, it will remain a shockingly effective strategy.
Case in point, after installing this extension I was shocked as to how little I wanted to click on videos - clickbait works.
CGP Grey is personally painful to me. He used to be a no-nonsense education youtube legend, but in the last few years he's just maximised clickability - even going thorugh his whole back catalogue and changing titles and thumbnails.
For example, he made a great video about generative adversarial networks ~5 years ago but now its titled "How machines like ChatGPT learn" - despite coming out before GPT.
Can vouch this extension is amazing. I started using it when it had 200 chrome downloads and it was already had many prominent creators in its database.
Title and thumbnail replacements are based on community votes, just like sponsorblock.
Anger is an extremely effective way to spread an idea.

We can only hope Lemmy users are more self-aware, and choose to engage with things they enjoy more than things they hate. But given human psychology, it's unlikely...
Looks pretty decent. If the case aesthetics + form factor are important to you, this build makes sense. If you want maximum price to performance, a slightly better GPU would be nice.

And I did. The issue is they put in a QR code for their own $800 500 GB SSD in the bios error message for when your SSD breaks.
My non-technical friend had no idea it's an obscene price and may have bought it just to get his laptop working.
