It stopped flying due to fuel costs and limited flight paths only allowed over oceans, no super sonic flying over land.

Just my suggestion/guide, note I am only saying Intel because where I am there's a large amount of ex government/school/company disposal laptops that are Intel.
Look for an laptop with at least 4 gb ram. The more ram the better, like 8gb. You definitely won't need alot of ram for internet and email but more allows it to be stable.
For CPU Intel then a i5 would be okay. An i7 that's a few years old would be great. If newer an i3 is fine but I personally think older i3s are a bit slow.
For hard drive you need only a small hard drive like 200 gb, you can use external usbs later. If possible get a solid state drive ssd any size for the speed
I agreed it is a bit of overhead to install and update the OS in the VM, but once setup its easy to snapshot or copy the VM.
So if I install a game that doesn't work out I just roll back.
I have tried Wine over the years and although it's getting better I am a dos and windows native. Linux on the side with the manual or Google open. 🤪
I actually use virtual box as my work pc. So my work and personal is separated.
I can easily backup/snapshot my work machine or move my work VM to another physical machine. Same using a VM to run any archived games you might find online that may have hidden malware that kills your main machine.
Connecting to work VPN within a VM and free to listen to music streams or Netflix in my main desktop without receiving any angry IT emails from work.
Because my main laptop(win8) is now overdue for replacement I am thinking to install Linux and VirtualBox and just run it as a VM server.

Yeah VirtualBox is my goto solution for this. I have Win95, WinXP, Win2000, Win8.1, Win10, Linux Ubuntu, Android86x, OSX Leopard
