I use root for being able to customize my phone greatly and with extra security benefits (like akunohana shared) while also bring able to degoogle. But if degoogling is the only thing you care about then there are other options, especially if you're not fully adept to understanding the file system and/or Linux already.
Def wouldn't. As much as I love opnsense and recommend them, their major updates tend to break something every time for me. Then again, my overall setup is a lot more complex than the average person, so maybe that's on me lol.
Similar thing happen to me. Had a lightning strike fry the ONT port outside, the charge went through to the UPS cat5e surge protector and to my opnsense box and fried it. Luckily it stopped there.
This is where I tell everyone to never buy UPSs from CyberPower. I sent them the thing to inspect because it was guaranteed paying for the damages from power surges and they claimed there was nothing wrong with it and their inspection came clean. But they sent me a new one and said they won't pay for my lost firewall.
Sorry to hear you got 10k in damages, that sucks. I've now got a whole house surge protector to try my best to avoid that (and I STILL unplug expensive things like my TV and stereo system).
It's great to at least give Gentoo a try, I imagine you learned a lot from it. I'd recommend trying to give it another shot some years down the road when you become a more more familiar with Linux and how to fix things on your own. You'll find it's probably way easier than you remembered.
My front yard takes over an hour with a push mower and the terrain is too complex for a ride mower. I'd be curious if I'd be the exception, unless the robot mowers are terrible at landscape changes like a robot vacuum would be. Including some boulders... But maybe still cheaper to hire some kid if I get that far on the lazy scale.
It's kind of both for me honestly. Call me old fashion... Or just old... but I really enjoy seeing a shelf full of game cases and looking through them to physically pick out what I wanna play. And it's really just nice-looking to me, just like a bookshelf that's actually full of books looks good.
Nintendo did something similar. They added to their privacy policy basically saying you grant permission to them monitoring chats, video, and audio through the switch (does switch even have a camera? I can't remember). They say if you disagree you can login and delete your account. Catch is that when you log in, you can't go to delete your account until you agree to the terms. And if you don't acknowledge by the given deadline, you're automatically agreeing to them.
I contacted their privacy email and they basically said I had to agree first before I could delete my account. Literally impossible to deny the terms.
I can keep ranting but I think I've made my point. They all suck.

The party site is just a very vague description of some group of people that sound like they're anti left and anti right at the same time. The Wikipedia article on the party doesn't really help make sense to what they expect to accomplish, but again that could just be my ignorance to it.
Would love to know more about all this, with more reliable sources if possible (vs a website that just says something without really providing sources). Mullvad is about trying to protect privacy with fighting big brother, and I'm really not seeing anything about the party that indicates it wants the opposite.
Don't see it on here, but anther article I read said it requires ASLR to be disabled to be exploited. So unless you're messing with those values manually, I don't imagine many people are at major risk here. Unless that other article was wrong lol. Can't figure out where I read that so I don't have a source, sorry!
Alternatives for a11y, by Google? That's silly. They haven't brought accessibility to even their main products like Google drive, I highly doubt they care. Those of us with specific requirements for accessibility are the least of their concerns.
I personally haven't really seen much difference between the two except Wayland eating more CPU and being rather tedious for hybrid (Ryzen/Nvidia) setups (still haven't resolved it crashing when I change TTY). I'd personally say stick to whatever default your desktop environment runs on..XWayland helps with the whole compatibility concerns at least.
Just my experience though, yours could be different depending on your machine and general setup

Gentoo is where I learned Linux. The handbook is so good and is my highest recommended source of getting into Linux, assuming you take it slow to understand it.
While a VM might be an option, I think you'll have less problems on a direct system... But maybe I'm wrong, I've never tried installing Gentoo on a VM before.
Just know, this system will need care... Keep Gentoo updated frequently, else you'll have issues with dependencies. If this is your first time digging into Linux, you'll goof. But don't fret, for there's always a fix!
If you find yourself needing something less demanding, my go to has been Mint for that. However these days I've actually been re creating my laptop on Gentoo with an external USB C. Turns out even on that it runs games better, so can't wait to move it to an nvme lol
This is exactly how my network is setup. All devices log to my syslog server which I feed into a database with a self made python app, and Grafana goes from there. It's been running nonstop for like 5 years without any problems, so I'd say your in the right path!
It's also helped me catch things like:
finding out android leaked IPs outside VPN tunnels on connect (prior to headlines claiming this)
finding out nslookup on termux ignores the phone's DNS settings and tries to use Google instead
finding other devices that ignore my DNS server settings
noticing that my work Mac will turn itself on in some weird silent passive mode in the middle of the night to try and send data to apple (sleep or powered off don't matter) - caught this from the logs sent by my router
Same here. I'm looking at all my other hobbies and trying to see which one would be the best... Unfortunately I doubt I could get anywhere near the same salary unless I find a way to start my own successful business out of one of them. That sounds just as stressful though lol
