Well there is no easy way to tell that other posts on reddit aren't fake so I think there is not much harm being done here. Just your little addiction, I think. And if that makes you happy, isn't that good enough?

I am in doubt about running Linux on my gaming system. As I need it to be as close to 100% compatible as possible for running games. Because I still have a lot of games on Steam that I haven't finished. So I don't want to lose the ability to play some of them.

MX Linux is great. Even voor systems specced lower than that. I bet that runs like a dream flr you.

I think it's nice how Dell still supports these. I've always been fond of the Latitude laptops with their ruggedness.

I decided to take a look and I think it's called Nvidia Optimus. A more general term would be hybrid graphics I guess.

And I think I may have come across the Bumblebee project back then: https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project

Maybe this helps.

Now that sounds interesting. I did not know about that.

I did get mine working eventually. Though that laptop died years ago. I did not get it to switch though so when I ran Linux it was always on the Nvidia GPU. But that wasn't an issue for me.

I remember there being a name for this that made it easier to search for a solution. But for the life of me I cannot remember what it was.

Good luck on your quest and I hope you get it working.

This reminds me of the nightmare of those laptops with intel and nvidia gpu so you could switch to nvidia if you wanted to game. And what a nightmare it was to even get the nvidia gpu working in linux.

When I'm buying new hardware I'll make sure never to buy nvidia again. However sometimes I am gifted things and it would be rude to refuse to accept.

I'll only go there when this place is having maintenance. Since it seems to coincide with my morning browsing session.

If money was no object I would go all in on open source hardware. Open source everything for me. Sadly I cannot. And so I am still stuck with decades old closed source hardware. But at least I'm running Linux on it.
