Tailscale is pretty straightforward because they have a config for it baked in, pretty sure it's just services.tailscale.enable = true. But if you use it with the operator=$USER setting, note that you still need to run tailscale with sudo for your initial login before that works properly

Fair, this is just by far the cheapest per GB in my experience and I don't have any privacy concerns since I encrypt everything before it leaves my server. But to each their own

I backup my whole NAS to AWS S3 glacier deep storage. I use rclone to encrypt it client side and perform incremental syncs. It is slow and costs extra to pull the data out, but I pay roughly $2/mo for all of my data to live there

JJ lacks too many features compared to git, it's easier to use but just less powerful. I think Helix and Zellij are good for that "batteries included" approach, but neovim and tmux are more powerful and allow much more customization IMO so those tools don't displace them for me. I think shell choices are less impactful, if you're writing scripts 90% of the time it'll have to be bash anyway, use what you like for the interactive shell though.

FOSS and copyleft: I want software built for the good of the public, with good intentions. Anything with corporate licensing us off the table, and ideally so are non-copyleft open source programs as corporations will hijack them for their benefit and privatization.

UNIX Like: It is my preferred workflow for development and everyday use. The windows paradigm is messy, convoluted, and inconsistent by comparison.

Fast, free, customizable: all nice to haves connected to the big two above

The system of capitalism is quiet violence every day, a pervasive exploitation of the working class and marginalized social groups. To fight back against it requires violence because this system was created and is enforced by violence. I'll never hand-wring about somebody suggesting this obvious route of struggle against the systems of oppression, this form of self defense, when we watch social murder and direct violence committed by the capitalist state happen every day; nor should you.
