I'm a casual player and I'm loving this expansion.
I'd suggest to buy the singles that you like and attend limited/draft events. I did a prerelease and a draft and it was really fun. Also I don't play commander but all the decks look really fun and cool to me
I lean more towards eternal for the higher power level and because there are more cards that I like. Also I don't play that much so I have to keep up less with new cards if I play eternal
It's still to early to decide what's the successor, post-reddit communities are still forming
