You guys are like mechanics in here, talking about cars under the hood. You’re coders, logic people, not design minded.

The best products are when form - meets function. The two must combine. Either one on its own it fails.

This thing is never going to work out. It’s fundamentally flawed. It’s a jumbled up mess.

This is the point.

People signing up have just landed here, and have never heard or understood a thing about how this works. The community in here is talking like, oh well, if they don’t get it, that’s there problem. Well, no, that’s poor design. Unless that’s the intention and this is a niche type thing you’re aiming to create in here for coders or a community into geeky things?

But if the intention is to create a platform that is open and accessible to all, a Reddit of sorts, I feel something needs to be revisited because it’s super confusing when you just land here.

A platform, website should be designed to work like Google, or Apple, something your Grsndmother could click on and use.

Ok fair enough, I’m starting to wrap my head around it.

The open source code allowed the project to get started, and you’ve expanded from there. Then multiple countries can feed in. Ok, it’s just at first it’s a bit confusing, if you’ve never heard of these places, fedaverse, lemmy , Piefed, then the different .domain names,

But anyway, I’ll dig in and it’s nice to not be on Reddit, that’s for sure.

Thank you. Appreciate that.

Do you feel like it works?

For me A. It’s confusing as fuck, to start up. Shouldn’t good design be simple, clear, obvious, and not need to be explained.

Take Reddit for example. It’s just one big site, with subs within it. That’s about it. Then there is a voting system on top, I’m not a fan of that, but basically that’s it. So why do they need to reinvent the wheel here. Why is Lemmy separate to Piefed? Why not just one site and boxes of communities within that?

Hi I’m new. I work in design, I have a degree in multimedia, and the whole concept - sorry to say - seems to be a jumbled up mess.

What’s lemmy? Is this lemmy. What’s piefed then, why are there multiple different communities for each topic ,

It’s not clear.

I don’t mean to insult people, I’m delighted there’s an alternative started, but I think it needs to be overhauled a bit.

I’m so glad to find this alternative, I’ve hated the platform for years. The down voting culture was toxic, and every time I voiced this I got banned.

They then started to slowly trial subs with no downvoting and lo and behold, success.

You cannot delete your account. The button to delete is broken, is that coincidence? They must have some of the best programmers coding on the planet, yet the option to leave is greyed out, hmmm

The whole network of communities is super confusing. I thought Piefed was a community, so what is Lemmy? And what are all the other communities.

The point is, this seems to be unclear, a chat community forum should be easy to understand, clear layout, simple to use.

My big trick over the past few years is make my own. So just squeeze a lime into a glass, drop of cordial and add sparkling water.

Now I’m ready to buy one of the machines, with refillable gas canisters. And not feel guilty about all the plastic bottles.

Fresh ginger, or apple juice is also a good mixer
